Sport Relief 2014: Three Main Events

Today marks the start of Sport Relief 2014!

This huge biennial event encourages people all over the country to participate in personal challenges and mass participation events to raise money for noble causes in the UK and abroad. Tonight’s broadcast will see a host of famous sports stars, actors, comedians and musicians doing their bit for Sport Relief with a series of sketches, skits, spoofs, performances and tough endurance challenges – it’s sure to be an entertaining show!

Sport Relief hosts three major events which are open to the public, and to get you into that sporting spirit, here is a little more about them…

The Mile

Sport Relief

Although officially named ‘The Mile’, this running event comes in three disciplines to cater for all abilities. Taking place across the UK, runners of all ages are welcome to either run a distance of 1, 3 or 6 miles of their chosen Sport Relief route.

The Swimathon

With a whopping 600 venues taking part from today until Sunday, aquatic fanatics are invited to take the plunge and swim a distance of either 1, 2.5 or 5 kilometres to test their endurance. There is even a ‘Simply Swim’ discipline for those who just want to splash around!

The Cycle

This challenging event takes place on Sunday at three major locations: London, Manchester and Glasgow. Keen cyclists can choose either a 3 mile (for families), 25 mile or the more gruelling 50 mile route and take in their chosen city’s most celebrated sights while pushing themselves to the limit.
