National Spa Week – Verulamium Spa Competition

National Spa Week starts today and runs until 6th November. To honour the week that is designed to put spa’s on the map and promote wellness and relaxation, we take a look at one of our favourite spa’s and offer you the chance to win a spa day for two there.

*This competition is now closed*

Verulamium Spa Treatment - National Spa Week

The Verulamium Spa in Hertfordshire is a luxurious haven of relaxation just an hour away from central London. The urban spa boasts excellent facilities which include a tepidarium (a warm room), a lanconium (the hottest room), an aroma steam, a sauna and a hydrospa pool. It even boasts its own heated loungers to relax on, which RLD’s Gemma enjoyed on her visit there earlier this year.

The spa’s heated chambers; the tepidarium, the lanconium and the caldarium andre reminiscent of ancient Roman bath’s and mimic the way the Roman’s would have entered the various chambers to cleanse and wash themselves. The benefits of these different rooms (aside of relaxation and rejuvenation) include stimulating circulation, purifying and detoxifying the body and boosting the immune system.

My preferred Spa treatment is an Indian Head Massage, primarily because I trained in this modality myself. But also because the treatment has many instant benefits for the mind, body and spirit.

  • Adrian coulson

My partner loves a beautiful massage at the end of a long week to just relax without a care in the world

  • Jane Cardew

I love a deep back, neck & shoulder massage. It’s great for tension & helps aid relaxation. Just wish I could afford to have one every week. :)

  • emily omara

Deep tissue back massage because I always get aches and pains in my upper back. This stress relieving treatment always eases the tight knots and makes me feel better all round.

  • Janet Palmer

I would love a spa day because I have reached the grand old age of 33 and still not had one!
It’s one of those things I promise to change every year and still manage not to go :-/
I would love to experience the chilled atmosphere and to walk out feeling revived and relaxed as right not I’m stressed and uptight help!

  • Sharon Barnard

I love a full body massage – even when the therapist finds and deals with the knots in my shoulders. The top it off with a heated bed for a while :-)

  • Nicola brittain

I love a really nice facial as i find them just as relaxing as a massage but you cone away with glowing skin too ☺ relaxed and refreshed !

  • Tanya

My favourite treatment is a full body exfoliation, followed by an after soothing moisturising massage :) I love it so much because I never get time at home in the bathroom to fully do it – and always end up half done. So, to have time and peace to have it professionally done leaves me feeling at my best and my skin glows, which makes me feel like a million dollars.

you simply cannot beat a facial,
The relaxing feeling is simply palatial,
For my skin and my mind there’s nothing better,
If I win this great prize I’ll be in your debt-er!!

  • Louella Schooley

My favourite spa treatment is a really good full body massage. Short term relaxing, long term rejuvenating. The perfect combination.

  • nadia

My favourite treatment is hot stone massage. The heat from the stones relieves muscle pain in depth and the feeling afterwards is a beautifully relaxed body and mind.

  • Joanna Orr

Personally my favourite treatment is a facial – I find it relaxing and my skin looks and feels amazing afterwards!

  • Fiona Melling

My favourite spa treatment was at the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, where I had an Awakening Ritual. It was unlike an massage. It was relaxing, it had hot stones, cold stones, foot massage, body massage and so much more. I loved the Summerdown Mint Oil that was used throughout the massge, such a lovely aroma. I left the building feeling like I was recharged.

  • Emma

Neither I or my partner have ever been to a spa before but it would be amazing to have the opportunity to go. My partner just started a new job and is working 11hr days and my job is very stressful so a break would be just the ticket. I think my favourite therapy would be a massage as I tend to sleep awkwardly and get back pain. I’ve always wanted to try a hot stone massage as that sounds heavenly.

  • Gill Saunders

I love a full head & shoulder massage as its totally relaxing and leaves me with a feeling of lightness and wellbeing

  • sue taylor

My favourite treatment is a full body aromatherapy massage. Nothing else relaxes me as much as this treatment, the synergy of the oils really works and you can choose whether to uplift or detox…It’s a fantastic treat for body, mind and soul!

  • Sara Friend

I adore having a really good deep tissue back massage, it really works on the all the kinks and knots that get stuck in my back from my stressful job. If it hurts a bit having the treatment, its a good one!

  • Vicki

My favourite spa treatment would have to be a back, neck and shoulder massage to ease away the stresses of being a Mum and holding down several part time jobs. It’s so nice to be able to close your eyes and drift off into a world where you can relax and unwind!

  • Becky p

I love a good strong neck and shoulder massage. Its so relaxing but I haven’t had the pleasure in such a long time! It would be such a treat! :-)

  • Jo Calvert

Reflexology is the perfect treatment for me! I’m on my feet all day at work and having them pampered makes such a difference

  • Joanne Parry

My favourite treatment is a manicure, no one does my nails as perfect as when I’ve been to a spa! Plus they last ages and make me feel glam :)

  • Katie Prentice

I’ve never actually been to a spa but I would love to! I think I’d love a massage, I have M.E. and have a lot of pain and I’ve heard that this can really help! Fabulous giveaway thank you! xx

  • Emma needham

  • Stacey Hill

Absolutely would love to win this prize… I would take my wonderful Mum, who retired from her supermarket stock replenishment job this week after 16 and half years. My favourite treatment is an Indian head massage… more than happy to take pics/ write about our day if we win! Thank you Red Letter Days/ Verulamium for the chance!!

  • Davina Mellon

I love a good facial – I don’t look after it enough so it’s always lovely to give it a bit of a treat :)

  • Doug

I don’t have many spa treatments but last year my wife treated me to a massage as a wedding present and I absolutely loved it!!!

  • Fay mcewan

i would choose an Indian head massage any day. The oils smell amazing and help you relax, the shoulder and neck massage eases tension built up and then the head massage is divine. For me it’s an added health benefit as I suffer from Telogen Effluvium (hair loss) and this therefore stimulates the hair growth too.

  • claremoloney@hotmail.co.uk

Mine is a full body massage , its so relaxing with calming music in background , and lovely smelling creams used on your back and the massage is so smoothing , especialy when they target the knots in your back !!!

  • Mandy hopkinson

My favourite beauty treatment at a spa is sea mud body wrap followed by a full body massage, it leaves me feeling so relax!

  • Lyndsey Jones

I like a Rasul mud treatment. Its feels very luxurious (and good fun) to slather yourself in the warm slimey mud, especially if you’re having the the treatment with your partner like I did and you can slather them in it too! There’s enough time for you to laugh at each others muddy faces before the showers kick in and wash the mud away. Your skin feels beautiful and soft afterwards – I love it! x

  • melissa cannon

I love a fascial – it totally relaxes me, gives me a feeling of wellbeing and I feel 10 years younger when I walk out of the treatment room!

  • leah finch

Love the mud therapy, getting all down and dirty them wash it off and feeling silky smooth is wonderful :)

  • Anii

Loving the back and shoulder massage to totally melt away the extreme tension I hold on those areas…it really helps to loosen and relax the muscles and begin to feel normal again!

  • Zoe goodwin

It’s got to be an Indian head massage. It’s so relaxing . It makes the walk of shame with greasy hair worth it

  • Elizabeth Hamburger

I love hot stone massages. I have really bad knots it my shoulders/trapz and a hot stone massage just makes them melt away!

  • Jane Willis

My favourite is a facial, it is so soothing and relaxing that I drift off into a trance while all the lovely fragrant products are being massaged onto my face. And when it’s finished, my normally dry, sensitive skin feels smooth and revived, even my eyes shine more brightly.
