Four Great Films Set During Autumn

The temperature is dropping, the sun is slowly going into hiding and the evenings are getting shorter, autumn has arrived.

But it’s not all bad. There are many ways we can celebrate autumn and embrace this most colourful of seasons – and one good method of getting into the seasonal spirit is by watching a film.

With this in mind, here are four great films that were filmed during the autumn…

American Beauty

Directed by Sam Mendes, this brilliantly dark and comic slice of American suburbia is arguably one of Kevin Spacey’s best performances.

Many of the shots are brightened up with hints of autumn scenery, especially the famous plastic bag scene.

Dead Poets Society

This critically-acclaimed drama set in a 1959 prep school was written by Peter Weir and won a host of top flight film awards.

Primarily filmed in an affluent Delaware middle school, the film features lots of autumnal leaves and colours from start to finish, which serve as a very fitting backdrop to the story.

Halloween

This cult slasher flick from 1978 unnerves audiences even today and the film’s horrific villain Michael Myers is still a popular choice for a Halloween costume!

Set around Halloween (of course!), it’s hard not to notice the dead autumn leaves and creeping twilight in this movie which really help to give the scenes a darker, more sinister edge.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Starring a young Mathew Broderick, this classic 80’s comedy is packed full off fun, laughter and misadventure.

The film is actually set during spring, however, it was filmed during autumn and there are plenty of leafy shots to prove it – particularly during the famous Ferrari scene!

Autumn walks and movies are the perfect way to make the most of this season. Mix the two together yourself by checking out our great range of London sightseeing experiences and film tours.
