We’re British and we know a thing or too about tea. Let’s begin National Afternoon Tea Week by celebrating this great institution. FRENCH AFTERNOON TEA WITH CHAMPAGNE AT A CAKE BOUTIQUE

For the definitive contemporary take on a French afternoon tea, look forward to filled petit pains, mini croissants and fine mini pastries including French macaroons, fruit tarts and gourmet shots. With champagne as well as tea to wash things down, it doesn’t get much more decadent than this!

ALICE IN AFTERNOON TEA LAND

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has been around for more than 150 years and its popularity has never wavered. Since 1865, children and adults alike have been enthralled by the magical tale of a girl called Alice, who fell down a rabbit hole and found herself in a topsy-turvy world of adventure. Based on this theme, there is an Alice based afternoon tea aboard the prestige Belmond Northern Belle train, for a Mad Hatter’s tea party every year, definitely a must for any Alice in Wonderland fans.

DID YOU KNOW… that Lewis Carroll’s real name was Charles Dodgson and he worked as a maths lecturer at Oxford University? The character of Alice was based on a real person called Alice Liddell, with a long mane of brown not blonde hair. The Alice books were banned in China in 1931, on the basis that “animals should not use human language”. Curiouser and curiouser…

GLAM ROCK AFTERNOON TEA

Hosted at the contemporary Studio Kitchen restaurant at London’s K West Hotel and Spa, the chic venue provides the perfect location for a glam and quirky afternoon tea, with shimmering cups and teapots and no skimping on delicious nibbles. Tuck into mini-clubs and rainbow brioche sliders, sorbet cones and fresh blueberry ‘rolling scones’ with clotted cream and homemade jams. Get proper rock and roll with the addition of Prosecco into the mix – cheers!
